“A good rule of thumb is that table scraps should never make up more than 5% to 10% of a pet’s total daily caloric intake.”
Safe Foods To Share With Your Dog
The dogs I share my life with are companion dogs. "'Companion' comes from 'panis', the Latin word for bread. Originally, the word was used to describe someone with whom you shared a meal." I share almost everything I eat with my dogs' as long as it is safe and they do not have a food intolerance / sensitivity to it. Since I choose them I treat them like family. Dogs are not our peers, but we should be their best friend.
“Treats and additional food items should not exceed10% of the daily caloric intake.”
Can dogs eat cheese? Yes, but in small quantities. Some types of cheese you can give dogs are cottage cheese, mozzarella or soft goat cheese and low-fat cream cheese, all of which contain little amounts of fat. [32] “Not all dogs digest cheese well, and while cheese contains little lactose when compared to whole milk, dogs with severe cases of lactose intolerance may have adverse reactions to cheese, even in small quantities.” [33] “keep your pet away from blue cheeses such as stilton. The fungus used to make these cheeses produces a substance called roquefortine C, which dogs can be sensitive to. This substance can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, high temperatures and even seizures. The risk of these symptoms is higher if your dog eats a large amount of cheese.” [34] [35] [36]
