Muzzles

There are basically two types of muzzles. Basket muzzles and groomers muzzles. Dog’s wearing a muzzle should not be left unattended.

Groomers Muzzle

A groomers muzzle does not prevent a dog from biting because they can still bite forcefully with their incisor teeth. A groomers muzzle should not be left on an unattended dog nor should they be used to walk a dog. A groomers muzzle restricts a dog from panting which is the primary way a dog regulates their body temperature. Skip the groomers muzzle and select a basket muzzle instead.

Basket Muzzle

Basket muzzles are used to lessen the chances of a dog biting and to prevent a dog from scavenging and eating things they shouldn’t. A muzzle with a top strap helps keep the muzzle secure (Baskerville Ultra)

A muzzle is not a tool to use to unnecessarily place a dog into a situation that they may react. Continuing to place a dog in situations where they feel the need to react will diminish your dog’s trust that you can protect them from harassment and you may be creating the very problem you were looking to prevent.

Understand that a dog with a muzzle on should not be unrestrained around people or animals they could harm.
