Lost Pet - What to do
Resources
For unattended dogs I recommend ID tags that slide on the collar like the Boomerang tags. Hanging/dangling tags can get caught on crate wires, narrow wire fencing, and heater vents.
If its a new dog in the home I like hanging dog tags (2 or more or a bell) on a dog’s collar so I’m alerted to the dog’s movements when I don’t have eyes on. Dangling tags can alert us to a dog that just got up from a nap that needs to pee, or that starts to go after the cat, or wonder into other areas of the home that might be off-limits.
Boomerang Tags & Pet Identification
“We make the highest quality tags you can find. What makes a tag "high quality"? Quality material and good workmanship. You want your pet's id tag to hold up over time and to be readable by the finder of your pet, nothing else will matter if your pet is lost."
”Pet ID Tags are our only product. We are Pet ID Tag professionals, we are not an internet pet products store, we are a Pet Identification Tag company.”
”If you want the highest quality pet id tag money can buy, a tag that will get your lost pet returned to you safely, you cannot go to a better web site."
Purchase direct from Boomerang Tags or from amazon.com
Boomerang tags last a dog’s lifetime and you don’t have to listen to a tag jangling or clacking on a food or water bowl.
If your dog does get out and avoids anyone grabbing their collar, all someone has to do is take a picture of the collar tag on the back of the dog’s neck in order to call the owner.
If your dog walks out of a gopro camera harness while walking in the hills and a nice stranger finds your camera they may call you after reviewing the video and getting your number off the visible boomerang tag on your dog’s neck. I speak from experience!

GPS Tracking
Whistle is a product I have not personally used yet but it came highly rated from two people I respect so it is on my recommendation list. Whistle now is offering the Whistle Go and the Whistle Go Explore to replace the Whistle 3 version. The Whistle Go’s work on the newer 4g networks whereas the older Whistle 3 works on 3g. The weight of the new versions are slightly more but they offer a longer battery life then the Whistle 3. Whistle uses the AT&T cellular network for live time tracking and subscriptions for the service start at $6.95. The Whistle Go Explore has a built in light which can be activated (via bluetooth) if the phone is within 50’ of the tracker. This light feature is only useful for locating the unit in a close by area. After reviewing the features of each unit my choice would be the Whistle Go at $99.95.
