Dog Treats

Training & Entertaining

I Look for dogs treats that are sourced and made in the USA. One challenge we consumers face is that manufacturers are not required to list the country of origin for ingredients used in their products. When looking for a jerky or any type of dog treat i avoid the following ingredients:

  • Cane Sugar

  • Molasses

  • Artificial colors

  • Artificial flavor

  • Vegetable glycerin

  • Glycerin

  • Brown Rice Syrup,

  • Dried Cane Molasses

  • Honey

LARGE TREATS - JERKY & SOFT CHEWS (STIK & SKINS)

Jerky treats are one of my favorite treats to give to dogs but I only trust a few brands since the deaths of so many dogs eating jerky treats. Two of my favorite ways to give to dogs is by freezing a jerky strip in a large of of water to make an ice treat, and stuffing a jerky strip inside a Qwizl. I will also place the stuffed Qwizl in a cup and fill with water to freeze to make an ice treat.

Before giving your dog a bone or chew there are several things you need to take into consideration. Two rules to follow anytime you give your dog any type of bone or chew; make sure the item is safe for your dog, and always supervise. First consider your dog’s chew style. There are aggressive chewers, gnawers, and scarfer’s. With aggressive chewers it’s recommended to not give them anything hard because aggressive chewers are prone to fracture teeth, throat or esophagus obstructions, intestine obstruction, and inflammation of the GI tract. Scarfer’s will attempt to swallow large chucks of bones, and chews when the item gets chewed down to a small size which can result in throat or esophagus obstructions, intestine obstruction, and inflammation of the GI tract.
